About the event
Iryna Levchenko will be playing Bandura, a traditional Ukrainian instrument in the first such public concert in Moose Jaw.
Iryna moved to Canada 2 years ago when the war in Ukraine starting and has since made Moose Jaw her home. Before the war, Iryna was a professional musician who played Ukrainian’s National Instrument, the Bandura with the National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments of Ukraine in Kiev and also was a music teacher for 20 years.
This day wouldn’t have happened without the support by key community members that made this possible. Locating an orchestra style Bandura was a challenge and secondly paying for it at a cost of $3500. Support by community members was provided to give Iryna an opportunity to play again and give back to the community.
The Bandura is uncommon to most who live in Canada as we don’t often see it being playing in our country.
This instrument brings joy and support to many displaced Ukrainian people living in Moose Jaw and other parts of Canada and those with Ukrainian roots.
Come and support Iryna Levchenko.
